Getting started with the partner panel

From adding a customer in the partner panel to getting the gateway running at the customer's site. The names, addresses and codes on this page are examples only.

  1. Open the customers page

Open the partner panel at your account address, such as yourcompany.nuvpn.com. On the Customers page, click New customer.

  2. Enter the customer's details

Enter the company name and contact email address, such as Example Ltd and it@example.com. An alert is sent to this address when the customer's gateway stops reporting.

  3. Choose the license type

Paid or Trial for 14 days. See Trials and NFR licenses for details.

  4. Create the license

Click Create and get installation command. The customer and license are created immediately, and a window opens with the installation commands.

  • The window shows a command for a Linux server, a command for Windows Server and the installation code itself. The code is shown only once. The window closes only after you confirm that you have copied the command.
  • The code is valid for 7 days and is intended for a single installation. Keep it safe, just as you would a password.
  • If the code is lost or expires, use New installation token on the customer's page to create a new one. Even if you create several codes for the same license, you can install it on only one server.

On Linux, run the command as root. Command format:

Terminal window
curl -sSL <INSTALL_URL> | sudo bash -s <INSTALL_TOKEN>

On Windows Server, run the command in a command prompt with administrator privileges. The installation is silent and stops if NAT is already configured on the server (see NAT conflict on Windows). Command format:

Terminal window
msiexec /i "<MSI_URL>" TOKEN=<INSTALL_TOKEN> /qn

The actual installation commands, including your code and the download address, appear only in the installation window in the panel. For full instructions, see the Linux installation and Installation on Windows Server guides.

  • When the Linux installation is complete, you see the address and port that devices connect to, the local console address and an initial console password. The password is shown once and must be changed at the first login.
  • During an MSI installation on Windows Server, the password is not displayed. It is saved in C:\ProgramData\nuVPN Gateway\initial-password.txt, which only SYSTEM and Administrators can read. The console sign-in page displays this path until you change the password for the first time. Changing the password deletes the file. The console address is recorded in the Windows Event Log (Application, source: nuVPN Gateway).
  • The console is accessible only from the customer's internal network and through the VPN, not from the internet. The customer's IT administrator uses the console to add employees, generate profiles and revoke access.
  • Employees connect using the nuVPN apps, with a profile they received from the console or through Group Policy.
  • When installation is complete, the customer's gateway appears on the Gateways page in your panel.
