nuVPN Home documentation
nuVPN Home protects every device on your home network at once — no app needed on each device. It combines an always-on encrypted connection with built-in nuDefend threat blocking, set up once on your router or home node.
What is nuVPN Home
nuVPN Home protects every device on your home network at once — phones, laptops, smart TVs and IoT gadgets — without installing an app on each one. It combines an always-on encrypted connection with nuDefend threat blocking.
- Whole-home coverage — one setup protects every device on the network.
- Always on — connects automatically and reconnects on its own.
- Built-in threat blocking — malicious and phishing domains are blocked for the whole house.
- No per-device apps — great for devices that can't run a VPN client.
Set up nuVPN Home
- 1
Get nuVPN Home
- 2
Download your configuration
- 3
Apply it to your network
Load the config onto your router or home node (see Router setup). From then on the whole network is protected.
Connect your devices
Once nuVPN Home is active on your router, every device that joins your Wi-Fi is protected automatically — nothing to install.
- Wi-Fi devices — just connect to your home network as usual.
- Guests — anyone on your Wi-Fi is protected while they're connected.
- Per-device control — you can still install the nuVPN app on a phone or laptop to stay protected away from home.
Prefer to protect a single device instead of the whole network? Install the nuVPN app and connect normally — see the nuVPN guide.
Router setup
nuVPN Home uses standard WireGuard, so any router with WireGuard support can run it. The exact steps depend on your router.
- 1
Check WireGuard support
Make sure your router firmware supports WireGuard (many modern routers, plus OpenWrt, do). - 2
Add a WireGuard tunnel
In your router admin, create a new WireGuard interface and import the.nuvpnconfiguration. - 3
Enable and route traffic
Bring the tunnel up and route your LAN through it. Save and reboot if your router requires it.
Keep your router firmware up to date and change the default admin password — the router is the front door to your whole network.
Troubleshooting
Some devices can't reach the internet
Reboot the device, then the router. If it persists, briefly disable the tunnel to confirm the config is the cause, then re-import a fresh .nuvpn file.
The connection drops
Check that your router firmware is current and the WireGuard tunnel is set to stay connected / auto-reconnect.
I want to exclude a device
Add a LAN exception on your router so that device bypasses the tunnel, or move it to a separate Wi-Fi network.
